Why Stay-at-Home Moms Should Have A Schedule
If you’re like me, you probably need to have a plan for how your day will go. Whether it be a simple checklist of to-dos or a calendar that outlines what the day holds, having a schedule is essential for your sanity as a SAHM.
Taking care of children is hard enough. It gets even harder when you add errands and chores that have to get done. If you don’t have a predictable structure for your day, it is easy to get overwhelmed.
When I was a new stay-at-home mom, I struggled to keep up with the task of caring for my baby and the home as well. The house was never clean so I couldn’t have people over out of embarrassment.
It made me very lonely and I often felt depressed.
When my baby was about 4 months old, I created a structure that really helped me get a handle on household duties and child care. I’ll share my tips below.
Before we proceed, I want you to know that the schedules I share below are just examples of how I do things. You don’t need to follow everything to a T. Pick and choose what you want until you find what works best for you.

What is A Good Cleaning Routine For A Stay-at-Home Mom?
A good cleaning routine or schedule depends on the time of day you’re looking at.
It also depends on the age of the child(ren) you’re taking care of. Below, I’ve outlined how I plan my morning, afternoon, and evening cleaning routines.

Stay-at-Home Mom Morning Cleaning Schedule
To effectively clean my house, I find it best to do things in sections. I always tackle the dining room area first because that’s where a lot of the mess lies.
My son is a very messy eater and things fall on the floor constantly. So in the mornings, I clean the dining and living room after I have fed him breakfast.
Then I dust and vacuum the dining and living room. I find that majority of the things that cause messes in my house are items that are not put back in their proper place after use.
So simply putting things where they belong makes my house look ten times cleaner.

Stay-at-Home Mom Afternoon Cleaning Schedule
In the afternoons, I find it easier to tackle the bathroom. One tip I have for bathroom cleaning is using Clorox wipes on everything.
It disinfects and it’s already wet so it eliminates the need for a wet sponge or towel. I do the sink, bathtub, and toilet bowl all with Clorox wipes, then I tackle the shower with scrubbing bubbles.
Stay-at-Home Mom Evening Cleaning Schedule
In the evenings after dinner, I work on cleaning the kitchen. I clean the stovetop, do the dishes and sweep the kitchen floor.
I also clean up toys from the living room floor and put out different ones for the next day. We follow the Montessori principles of toy rotation in my home.
My son is still very young so he can’t help me clean up just yet, but when he gets older, this putting his toys away will become his nightly responsibility.
On the weekends, I clean the bedrooms and do the laundry

In this article, I’ve outlined some possible schedules and routines for managing your home as a stay-at-home mom. I have also given you examples of how I structure my day with my son from the newborn stage to 12 months of age.
Before you go, I want you to know that your well-being is very important. You need to make sure that you always find time during the day for self-care. Self-care doesn’t have to be something extravagant.
Simply laying down and deep breathing for 30 min is good self-care. If you’re not okay, then you won’t be able to care for your child or your home.
